There's a good time to be creative. That time is now.
In the circle of trust, there is basically no perfect time to draw, write, create, think or dance.
Let’s be honest, there will always be housework (there will in my house, anyway).
There are always a few more emails to send, cats to deflea, ageing relatives, dinners to prepare.
and yet—
and yet—
If you’ve got an idea for something, that, too, is always there. But unless you pull out of your mind and put it into the world, it will linger on your to-do list as well. Or, worse, it won’t. It’ll disappear.
The time to grab your idea is right now, before you forget. Before you unstack the dishwasher or ring your Mum or put the laundry away.
Go and get your guitar and play that wobbly version of Back In Black. Mix some vanilla syrup into your beer and see what happens. Record yourself singing Who’s Sorry Now and stick it on your Soundcloud. Do it.
Unfulfilled potential is a pity.
I used to have a teacher who would say ‘Procrastination is a waste of time.’
If you’re not in the mood to let your creativity flow, how about some of these activities to give you a few moments of inspiration?
Have a bath in the dark
Create a picture of everything you love most to put in your wallet
Give yourself some pocket money this weekend. What can you treat yourself to?
Go for a walk without airpods
Sketch a quick picture of the last thing that made you laugh
Make a nature collage
Write a few lyrics from your favourite song from another angle (think Jolene from Jolene’s perspective, or Baby I’m Yours by a former boyfriend)
Let me know in the comments what you manage to do this weekend! Here I was having an airpod-free wander in Waltham Forest…
