I think this is so true- you can have too much time. I wrote my first novel in snatches like this when I had two teenage kids and a senior managers job. It’s easy to forget- thanks for the reminder
Absolutely! I reckon I could count on one hand the authors I’ve worked with who wrote their books while on writing retreats! For nearly everyone, writing is a daily process rather than an immersion and perhaps all the richer for it!
I love the pomodoro technique too it’s an absolute game changer isn’t it. I think it’s works so well when you’re tired too. I’m the same with what to do in the breaks but now I often just stare out of the window with tea... that’s enough doing for me! ✨
I think this is a useful technique. I spend a ridiculous amount of time at work ‘doing emails’, usually to the detriment of much actual work which is incredibly unsatisfying. The times I actually try and focus on completing a task, my job satisfaction for the day increases (a bit 😂).
DEFINITELY! I could literally fill my work days with email alone - it *feels* productive but really, it’s just ‘busy work’. If I can focus, even for a bit, it’s better all round! Thanks for subscribing!
The pomodoro is great! Have you tried it with some external accountability, like on Groove? https://medium.com/groove-with-us/like-the-pomodoro-technique-youll-love-groove-e2e4607f507
Ooh no I haven’t seen Groove, I’ll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation!

I used to use this but had completely forgotten about it. Thank you - am trying it tomorrow.
I love it! Let me know how you get on!

My mum bought me a jigsaw last week so I did a couple of pieces of that during my breaks today, it was so soothing!
Oh that’s such a good break activity Alice!
